Coroner's investigators think they have identified a woman whose decomposing body was found off a trail near the Griffith Park observatory, a spokesman said Saturday.

"We have a possible name, but we're going to contact family to get dental X-ray records and body X-rays. That may delay the autopsy a bit," said Jerry McKibben of the coroner's office.

An autopsy is scheduled Saturday. A strong odor led to the discovery of the body in some brush about 11:40 a.m. Friday off the 2800 block of East Observatory Road, police said.

The body, which was only about 100 yards away from the observatory, was found fully clothed.
