Police ID Man Shot, Killed for Confronting Tagger

A tagger who fatally shot one man and wounded another when they confronted him in a Hollywood neighborhood was at large Thursday, police said.

The men were shot about 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of North Hobart Boulevard, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Jose Perez, 29, of Hollywood, died at the scene, said LAPD Officer Julianne Sohn. A 41-year-old man riding in the car with Perez was hospitalized in stable condition, Sohn said.

Perez was driving in the neighborhood when he and his passenger saw the suspect tagging, and he pulled over and told the man to stop, Sohn said.

"The suspect walked over, confronted him, and fired into the vehicle," Sohn said. The gunman then ran off.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 21 years old, 5 feet 6 inches and 160 pounds. He wore dark clothing. Anyone knowing more about the crime was urged to call police.
