Police Officers Hospitalized After Crashing Into Tree in Hit-and-Run

Their patrol vehicle was struck at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and St Andrews Place

Two police officers were hospitalized after crashing into a tree following a hit-and-run crash in Exposition Park early Saturday.

Their patrol vehicle was struck at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and St. Andrews Place at around 2 a.m, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.

The officers were driving when the other vehicle turned left in front of them. Despite trying to avoid a collision the other vehicle clipped the rear corner panel of their cruiser.

The unit crashed into another parked car before hitting a tree, causing significant front end damage. One of the officers had to be cut from the vehicle.

Both officers were taken to a hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries in the smash, though one did suffer a possible broken arm, an LAPD spokesman said.

A driver fled the scene. No arrests were reported Saturday morning. Investigators are looking into obtaining dash cam and surveillance footage.

West Jefferson Boulevard at  St. Andrews Place was closed for the investigation.
