Police Officers Pitch In to Replace Boy's Stolen Bike

The officers bought the 12-year-old a brand new bike after his fixer-upper bicycle was stolen.

Pomona police officers bought a 12-year-old boy a brand new bike after his fixer-upper bicycle was stolen over the weekend.

The boy went to visit a friend on Sunday and the bike was stolen outside of his friend's house.

He quickly called police to report the theft.

The boy had previously sanded down the bike that was donated by a neighbor in preparation to paint it and fix it up.

"I could tell the bike was his pride and joy," Officer Austin Dossey said.

Dossey said he was so moved by the boy's story that he had to help. He messaged some of the other officers on shift and asked them if they'd be willing to donate some money for a new bike.

He received responses from a sergeant, a corporal and six other officers who were willing to pitch in.

Officers with the Pomona Police Department took the boy in a squad car to pick up his new bike from Bobby's Bike Shop on Garey Avenue in Pomona.

"He just kept saying thank you," Dossey said.

Police added that he was "thrilled" and "happy" to be on the road again!
