Police Probe in Anaheim Death Turns Up More Questions Than Answers

Police have been tracing the final steps of Mary Bowman, a 75- year-old Anaheim woman who died a few days after her daughter found her on the floor of her condominium.

That was Sept. 16.

After the daughter found Bowman, the woman was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.

"But at that point she was so comatose that detectives were never able to talk with her." said Sgt. Tim Schmidt of the Anaheim Police Department

Police said Bowman suffered a severe blow to the head, but an exact cause of death still hasn't been determined.

In the condo, police found a receipt for tire-repair oil purchased on Sept. 16 at a local auto parts store.  Police went to the store and got a surveillance photo of a man buying that tire-repair oil.

Police wanted to talk to the man, and on Wednesday, they found him.  Now they say they have determined he was simply a good samaritan who had been helping Bowman with a flat tire.

Police have determined that Bowman was running errands that day before her daughter found her.  They say that by retracing her steps that day, they hope to find clues to her death.
