Driver Jumps From Moving Car in Orange County Pursuit

The driver's mother told police that her son was armed

The driver of a stolen car leading police and the California Highway Patrol on a wild pursuit across Orange County Sunday jumped from the moving car and ran from officers before he was detained.

The pursuit began in the Fullerton area on Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m., according to the Fullerton Police Department.

The driver of the stolen car lead authorities from the 91 Freeway to surface streets in the Orange County area.

The driver, described by police as a man in his 20s, was the only person in the vehicle. The man's mother contacted police to tell them that her son was armed.

During the chase, the driver was seen waving his arm outside the window. The car zig-zagged in and out of traffic, dodging other vehicles on the roadway while driving on the wrong side of the street.

The pursuit ended around 9:40 p.m. when the driver jumped out of the car at the intersection of Lincoln and Magnolia in Anaheim.

The driver fled from officers, running into a neighborhood where police used a stun gun on him and took him into custody.
