Police Release Sketch of Man in Palos Verdes Estates Kidnapping Attempt

Police on Saturday released a composite sketch of a man wanted in the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy in Palos Verdes Estates.

On Thursday, the boy was walking home from a school bus stop when two men in an older-model Chevrolet van lured him closer by asking him for directions, officials with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department said.

When the boy got close, one of the men grabbed his backpack and tried to pull him in.

"From that point on I squirmed and bolted straight to my house," said the boy, whose mother allowed to speak with NBC4.

He said the van sped away, turned right on Via Visalia and disappeared.

The boy was not hurt.

Investigators in search of tips released a composite sketch of one of the men, along with a drawing of what the van may look like.

The would-be kidnapper was described as white man, about 45 years old, with a medium build. He had tanned skin, dark brown hair in a buzz cut and was wearing a tank top.

No description was available for the second man.

The van was describes as a brown-colored 1980s Chevrolet with light-colored horizontal stripes on both sides of the van. The paint was faded and chipped in some parts. The windows were covered on the inside by mini-blinds.

Anyone with information was asked to call Det. Charles Reed at 310-378-4211.
