Baby Found Dead in Parking Lot, Woman and Girl Hospitalized

A woman in her 20s and a 6- to 8-year-old girl were found unresponsive in the parking lot and hospitalized

Security cameras provided investigators with one of their few leads in the mysterious case of a baby found dead with a naked woman and girl Thursday morning in a South Los Angeles store parking lot.

The Los Angeles Police Department Newton Division received a call of a woman and two children unresponsive at about 2 a.m. Thursday and responded to 23rd Street and San Pedro Street. The baby, a woman in her 20s and a 6- to 8-year-old girl were found naked and covered in a "white substance" in the parking lot of Numero Uno Market.

A hazardous materials team determined that substance was some type of "baby product" and not considered dangerous.

Police said they believe the two children and woman live in the area. Security cameras at a liquor store captured the mother, holding the infant, and girl walking naked in the neighborhood late Wednesday night. The store owner said the woman entered the business several times Wednesday.

The woman, possibly the girl's mother, purchased Ajax and other cleaning products, according to the owner.

Officers wrapped up an investigation later Thursday morning at a nearby house where the woman and children were believed to reside.

Details about a cause of death and the conditions of the hospitalized individuals were not immediately available.
