Shots Fired During West LA Standoff

Nearby West LA residences were evacuated during the standoff

SWAT members remained outside a West Los Angeles home early Tuesday as a standoff involving an armed man continued in the 11400 block of Rochester Avenue near Butler  Avenue.

Authorities responded to the home at about 8:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a man threatening to kill himself. The SWAT unit was called to the location at about 2 a.m.

During the standoff, the man stepped onto a balcony and fired into the air as an LAPD helicopter hovered overhead.

"He appeared to get agitated when the airship was flying above," said Sgt. Rudy Lopez. "He shot several times in the air at the airship."

About 20 people were evacuated from nearby residences, according to Lopez.
