Police Say They Tried to Stop Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

Due to the drivers’ extreme speed and unpredictability, the officer decided not to pursue

A Burbank police officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist driving erratically on Alameda Avenue Saturday morning, but the driver did not respond to the officer’s sirens and was found dead shortly after, police said.

The motorcycle driver nearly collided with a speeding vehicle at a red light and skidded halfway through the intersection, according to a press release from the Burbank Police Department.

The officer turned his sirens on, but the motorcyclist sped off on Buena Vista Street, turning west onto Riverside Drive and crossing over multiple lanes of opposing traffic.

Due to the drivers’ extreme speed and unpredictability, the officer decided not to pursue, according to the release.

The officer drove down the same street the motorcyclist did, where he found that the motorcyclist had struck a fire hydrant and light pole.

The Burbank Fire Department responded to the scene, but the 40-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers’ identity is being withheld so his family can be alerted.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Burbank Police Department Traffic Bureau at 818-238 3100.
