Two people who police say were armed with guns near the USC campus were taken into custody Tuesday night, officers at the scene said.
Police had pulled a car over in the area when the gunmen ran and each threw a hand gun, officers said. After a search, both were taken into custody and the guns were recovered.
USC sent students an emergency alert at 8:05 p.m. to notify them the "police related incident" on Ellendale Street was over, and the area was "safe to enter."
Officers searching within a perimeter found a male hiding in a dumpster and took him into custody about 7:40 p.m., live aerial footage from the scene showed.
The second person was found a short time later.
The school put out alerts warning students to stay away from Ellendale Street near the UPC campus.
