2 Alleged Gunmen in Custody Near USC

Two people who police say were armed with guns near the USC campus  were taken into custody Tuesday night, officers at the scene said.

Police had pulled a car over in the area when the gunmen ran and each threw a hand gun, officers said. After a search, both were taken into custody and the guns were recovered.

USC sent students an emergency alert at 8:05 p.m. to notify them the "police related incident" on Ellendale Street was over, and the area was "safe to enter."

Officers searching within a perimeter found a male hiding in a dumpster and took him into custody about 7:40 p.m., live aerial footage from the scene showed.

The second person was found a short time later.

The school put out alerts warning students to stay away from Ellendale Street near the UPC campus.
