Husband Killed in Watts Home-Invasion Shooting

Wife hospitalized with gunshot wound to her arm

A man was killed and his wife injured at their Watts home after a gunman chased the male victim into a bedroom and opened fire, and now police are working to determine a motive in the crime, detectives said Monday.

The shooting happened Sunday about 11:15 p.m. at 9708 Beach St. in Watts.

Police said the man, believed to be in his mid-50s, went outside his home to see why his car alarm was going off. He was confronted by two men and then fled back into the house.

One of the attackers chased the man, and shot him twice in the victim's bedroom. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

His wife was shot once in the arm and a bullet grazed her stomach. She was hospitalized and described by doctors as stable.

The motive was originally suspected to be robbery, but now detectives are not sure.

The couple, whose identities were not released, were described as a black man and a black woman in their mid-50s.
