Missing Girl Found Hiding Under Bed

A very tense Friday night ended with cheers on the streets of Richmond

A 4-year-old Richmond girl reported missing Friday night was found hiding under a bed, officials said.

Richmond police earlier that night were unable to locate Amieya Renee Stewart after an extensive and exhaustive search in the area of 4230 Wall Avenue.

Amia disappeared shortly before 5 p.m. Friday from a home at 4230 Wall Ave. where there was a family gathering.

Just before midnight, the child was found under a bed at the same house she had gone missing.

"She was surrounded by many different items and unfortunately had gone undetected," Lt. Bisa French said.

Amieya is in good condition, according to French.

A group of family members was out looking for her when they received the call that she had been found safe. They screamed for joy.  Her grandmother told NBC Bay Area that Amieya likes to hide.

Holding the little girl in her arms, Amieya's mother told reporters she was sorry to worry everyone, adding that she thought she had looked everywhere in the house. She said police had even brought in dogs that did not find the child.
