Missing Mom and Infant Found Safe

A missing 23-year-old mother and her 4-week-old daughter were found safe last night, said police. "They were found at a hotel on Western Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr.  Boulevard at 10:30 p.m. Monday," said Lt. William Heard, of the LAPD's Wilshire Station.

The LAPD Wilshire Detectives had asked for the public’s help in locating a Kathy Nicole Leath and baby Genesis True Leath. The pair had been last seen in the area of Ralphs Supermarket located at Pico and San Vicente boulevards in Los Angeles.

Kathy Nicole Leath had taken the child with her to a Ralphs grocery on September 3 at around 3:30 p.m.

They were accompanied by Cortez Leath, Kathy Nicole Leath's uncle and conservator, according to the LAPD. Although Kathy is 23-years-old, she has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old child.

Cortez Leath told police he walked away from Kathy Nicole Leath and daughter for a moment, and when he returned they were nowhere to be found.

Kathy Nicole Leath is described as African American with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5-feet 6-inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has a medium complexion and build.

Kathy Nicole Leath was wearing a purple tank top, blue jeans, black shoes and a costume jewelry ring.

Genesis Leath is described as African American with brown hair and brown eyes, 26 inches, weighing 8 pounds. Genesis Leath was wearing a purple one-piece “onsie” outfit.

Due to the mental capacity of Kathy Nicole Leath, a CARE Alert had been issued and the family and the Los Angeles Police Department are seeking the assistance of the public in locating Kathy and Genesis.

Police say they found the mother and daughter after a viewer recognized them from a television news report, and called authorities.
