Geneva Macon

A 55-year-old Victorville woman was arrested in connection with a series of wallet and purse thefts from grocery store customers.

Deputies said Geneva Macon called the customers and demanded cash in exchange for the wallets.

The investigation began after deputies received seven reports of lost or stolen wallets and purses from customers of King's Ranch Market. The reports were received in November and December.

Investigators said Macon, a box clerk, assisted customers -- even customers who did not need help -- to their vehicles. Authorities said Macon took the wallets and purses, then contacted the customers at a later date to demand money in exchange for the pilfered items.

Authorities said they are attempting to determine whether Macon used the customers' credit or debit cards.

Deputies said anyone with information about the case can call 760-241-2911.
