Passenger in Vehicle's Trunk Prompts Police Response in North Hollywood

Police followed the vehicle to an apartment complex near Bob Hope Airport

A passenger riding in the trunk of a car prompted a possible kidnapping report and police response Thursday in North Hollywood.

Aerial video showed at least five people in handcuffs Thursday afternoon after officers responded to the report  at about 12:20 p.m. of a possible kidnapping in North Hollywood.

At least five squad cars were at an apartment complex near Archwood Street and Vineland Avenue (map). Police followed the vehicle to the location, southwest of Bob Hope Airport, where units were in an alley behind the complex

Details regarding the possible kidnapping report were not immediately available, but police determined after questioning the motorists that one of the passengers was riding in the trunk.

Section 21712 (C) of California Vehicle Code states, "A person driving a motor vehicle shall not knowingly permit a person to ride in the trunk of that motor vehicle." A violation of the code can result in fines up to $250.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver was cited.
