Sketch Released in La Verne Mansion Murder Case

Police released a composite sketch Wednesday in hopes of identifying a man wanted in the slaying of an elderly couple at their La Verne mansion last month.

Shirley and Armie "Troy" Isom were discovered slain on Dec. 26 in their sprawling home in the 300 block of Roughrider Road.

Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide investigators initially said that the couple had been stabbed, but later called the injuries blunt force trauma.

Detectives were seeking the public’s help with locating a man seen walking on roadways in the area about the time crime happened.

He was described as a Hispanic or white man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5-foot-7-inches tall, wearing a dark hooded overjacket or overcoat and blue jeans. He was carrying a duffel bag or backpack.

Investigators do not believe the man was a transient.

The expansive residence and its large-scale surrounding property led to a scene investigation that extended over several days. Detectives have interviewed family members and many residents in an effort to determine the identity of the suspect and a possible motive.

A gardener working in the area told NBC4 he saw a man leaving the home, but he couldn't see his face because it was covered by a hooded sweatshirt.

Family members on Wednesday delivered flowers to the front of the home after attending a memorial service in Upland.

The couple’s daughter, Darcy Isom, said that while her father had numerous business dealings and was targeted in several lawsuits, she doesn’t know why anybody would want to hurt them.

She also said she was not convinced that the man in the sketch was the killer.

"I don't think it had anything to do with the lawsuits, and I don't think this hooded person has anything to do with anything either," she said.

NBC4's Angie Crouch contributed to this report.
