A grenade that was turned in at a Santa Monica police station, forcing an evacuation, turned out to be a dud, police said.
The relatives of a dead person brought in the grenade to the station at 333 Olympic Drive on Saturday evening, police said. The front lobby and surrounding area was evacuated.
The grenade was real, but was incapable of exploding, police said.
