Sylmar Hospital Evacuated Due to Report of Man With Gun

Part of Olive View UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar was evacuated Thursday morning after someone reported seeing a man with a gun on the campus.

There was no evidence of an active shooter, but authorities told NBC4 that someone with a gun approached an individual inside the hospital. NBC4 is working to confirm details about the encounter.

The call was reported at 9:20 a.m. Aerial video showed patients, some still in hospital room beds, and staff members leaving the building in the 14400 block of Olive View Drive.

People who were in public areas of the hospital were evacuated while patients in their rooms were placed on lock down while SWAT searched the building.

Aerial video showed at least five people in handcuffs being detained by deputies. It was not immediately clear whether the individuals were arrested in connection with the report.

Sheriff's department vehicles, including armored SWAT units, and a department helicopter responded to the location, about 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
