Car-to-Car Shooting Near Elementary School

One person was shot in the face.

One person was injured during a car-to-car shooting near an elementary school in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was shot in the face and driven to a nearby fire station at the 4400 block of Coliseum Street, LAPD officials said.

Virginia Road Elementary School at the 2900 block of Virginia Road was placed on lockdown at 12:35 p.m. due to police activity, Jack Richter said, spokesman for LAPD. The lockdown was lifted less than an hour later.

A large playground attached to the school was very close to where shots were fired.The nearest classrooms were about a block and a half away.

Several people were detained by LAPD officials near the area. At least one person was taken into custody, officials confirmed.

Aerial footage showed a 4-door car with its rear window blown out and driver side door ajar parked outside the fire station.

No other occupants aside from the driver and victim were reported in the car.

Detectives from the LAPD gang and narcotics division were investigating the incident.
