More Than 2,000 Report Feeling 3.0-Magnitude Quake Near Santa Monica

A 3.0-magnitude earthquake shook the Santa Monica area Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor hit near the Santa Monica fault at 10:28 p.m. between Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Earthquake expert Lucy Jones tweeted that the fault is one of the "significant" faults in Los Angeles.

"Not an usual spot for a quake," she said.

It was a shallow shake, with a depth of 8.7 km or 5.4 miles, but more than 2,000 people reported feeling the quake to the USGS website.

People from the westside to the Valley reported feeling a sharp, quick jolt.
