Pursuit Driver Casually Lights Up, Refuses to Drop Cigarette During Struggle With Police

A woman climbed out of the sunroof of a stolen car and smoked a cigarette during a standoff Thursday following a pursuit in the San Fernando Valley.

The woman, wearing a tank top, popped out of the sunroof of the stolen Honda sedan at the end of the chase in Van Nuys. After exchanging words with officers and lighting up her cigarette, she was wrestled out of the car.

Face-down on the ground with her hands behind her back, she continued smoking until an officer knocked the dangling cigarette from her mouth.

An officer standing outside his patrol vehicle was struck by the Honda during the pursuit. He was treated and released from a hospital.

The pursuit lasted about 30 minutes before the driver crashed into a curb.
