Driver in Custody Following Pursuit That Ended in OC Standoff

A driver was taken into custody after leading police on a pursuit, then holding them at bay in a standoff in the city of Orange on Sunday.

Police began pursuing the driver about 5:30 p.m. through several Orange County communities. About half an hour later, the driver stopped outside the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange and got into a standoff with officers.

Police had their guns drawn as the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, refused to surrender and remained inside the SUV.

A large SWAT armored vehicle was positioned behind the man's SUV. The suspect then slowly moved the vehicle out of its position in an apparent attempt to drive away, but officers repositioned themselves to box him in.

The standoff ended about 9:15 p.m. when SWAT officers fired rubber bullets at the man and sent a police K-9 to subdue him.

The man allegedly wrestled with the dog before being taken into custody.

The 46-year-old river was wanted for criminal threats involving a firearm, according to Tustin Police Department officials.
