San Fernando Valley Pursuit Spins to a Stop

The pursuit began at about midnight near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Osborne Street

An officer used his squad car to spin a fleeing driver's vehicle, which then crashed into a pole, and end a pursuit in the San Fernando Valley early Monday.

The pursuit began near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Osborne Street at about midnight. The driver refused to comply with officers' orders to stop the vehicle, according to police.

The chase continued on surface streets before a pursuing officer used a PIT -- pursuit intervention technique -- maneuver to spin the car, which stopped sliding when it hit a pole in the Valley Glen area.

The subject surrendered after a standoff, police said. He was to be booked on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving and  evading, police said.

A passenger also was taken into custody.
