An hours-long standoff on top of a Westwood house ended Thursday when officers fired bean-bag projectiles and used a ramp and ladder to reach the subject.

After a pursuit in the West LA area, the man fled rooftop-to-rooftop in a residential area early Thursday. It is unclear whether the homeowners were inside a home in the 800 block of Malcolm Avenue when the man climbed on their rooftop at about 8:30 a.m.

Officers surrounded the home, and the man alternately sat and walked on the roof. At times, he smoked a cigarette.

Several armored police vehicles were at the location as officers tried to talk him down. The man directed threats at officers from atop the two-story house, according to the LAPD.

The standoff ended at about 1 p.m. when officers fired bean-bag projectiles and him. He raised his hands and dropped face-down on the roof.

Officers climbed a ramp and took the man into custody.
