Pursuit Winds Through LA, Ends in Crash

A man led police on a chase from Malibu on the coast to the middle of LA before crashing

A nearly 90-minute police pursuit that started in Malibu and wound 30 miles through LA on Saturday ended when the driver being chased crashed his car and was taken to a hospital.

It started when police spotted a car driving recklessly in downtown Malibu. It ended after 30 miles in the Mid-City section of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles firefighters radioed in that they were taking an injured person in police restraints to a hospital.

Sheriff's deputies pursued the vehicle down Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Monica, where the chase was picked up by officers from the Santa Monica Police Department, and then the LAPD West Los Angeles Station.

An LAPD helicopter joined the chase overhead as the pursuit wound through West L.A., the South Robertson area and the Wilshire District.

It ended just before 11 a.m. near Pico and Redondo boulevards.

One person was taken to a hospital, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
