Armed Robber Leaves Verizon Store With 40 iPhones Before Pursuit

The pursuit began in Ontario before ending in a crash 40 miles away in Downey

A pursuit that began after an armed robbery in Ontario ended about 40 miles away Wednesday morning in Downey.

The robber left a Verizon store in the 2900 block of Archibald Avenue in Ontario with about 40 iPhones and joined another subject waiting in a vehicle, according to police. Officers pursued the driver on the 60, 57, 605 and 105 freeways into the Los Angeles area.

The driver crashed in Downey before the pair apparently tried to carjack another vehicle, police said. The two subject were arrested later Wednesday morning.

No injuries were reported during the robbery. It was not immediately clear whether the merchandise was recovered.
