Small Quake Rattles Big Bear Area Following 4.0-Magnitude Temblor

A preliminary magnitude-2.8 earthquake rattled the Big Bear area Wednesday night following a 4.0 temblor that struck the same area earlier in the day, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The latest quake struck at 8:13 p.m. about 7 miles northwest of Big Bear Lake, the USGS said.

A quake that struck at 9:10 a.m. just southeast of the city delivered a jolt that could be felt throughout the region.

There were no reports of injuries or damage following either quake.

The tremors came on the same day that a powerful 8.3-magnitude earthquake hit off the Chile coast, prompting a tsunami advisory from Southern to Central California.
