Reese Witherspoon Hit by Car While Jogging

84-year-old driver cited for hitting movie star

Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was injured while jogging Wednesday in Santa Monica after she was hit by a car.

Santa Monica Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis said the movie star was jogging in the northbound lanes of Georgina Avenue when an 84-year-old Santa Monica woman driving on 20th Street failed to slow down and hit the actress.

Lewis said "Witherspoon suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment."   He added that the actress was at home tonight recovering.

"The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released after being cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, a violation of California Vehicle Code section 21950(a)," Lewis told NBC4.
