Authorities were searching Wednesday for people who may have been approached by a registered sex offender accused of attempting to kidnap a 10-year-old girl in Norwalk.

A man tried to pull the girl into a tan-colored Toyota Corolla in the 13000 block of Clarkdale Avenue around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, said Detective Henry Jaquez of the sheriff's Norwalk Station.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Armando Hernandez, 54, of Norwalk, Jaquez said.

Hernandez was booked at the sheriff's Norwalk Station and was being held in lieu of bail, Jaquez said.

It was unclear if Hernandez had an attorney.
