No Evidence Found After Reports of Active Shooter at Bakersfield Hospital

Reports of an active shooter at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, California, resulted in a massive police response Wednesday night.

KGET, NBC's local Bakersfield affiliate, was reporting that the hospital was on lockdown with police searching room-to-room with patients and visitors barricaded inside rooms at 9:45 p.m.

The initial reports of a possible shooting came in at approximately 8 p.m.

At 10 p.m., the Bakersfield Police Department used Twitter to confirm that personnel were responding to a situation at the hospital and advised the public to stay away. Police also said that no victims had been located and no shots had been fired after emergency personnel had arrived on scene.

Mercy Southwest Hospital is located on Old River Road in southwest Bakersfield.

At 10:43 p.m., the Bakersfield PD updated that the initial search of the hospital had been completed and no evidence of any shots fire or victims had been located.

At 11:57 p.m., the Bakersfield PD stated that the scene had been cleared and that all roads would be reopened shortly.
