Reserve Officer Awarded for 50 Years of Service in San Bernardino

For 50 years, Richard Dewberry dutifully carried out a variety of assignments after being appointed a San Bernardino Reserve Police Officer in 1965, including patrol, prisoner transport, traffic and investigations.

On Wednesday, Dewberry was honored by city officials and fellow reserve officers for a half-century of dedication. Dewberry received a Reserve Unit Distinguished Service and Dedicated Service award for a lifetime of service to the San Bernardino community, according to a news release.

Dewberry has been known to many as the dedicated ranger master and firearms instructor at the San Bernardino Police Range since 1993, but he has held numerous posts as a volunteer, according to a news release.

In the 1960s, Dewberry expressed an early interest in firearms in his career and was selected to join the San Bernardino Police Department Pistol Team. Dewberry traveled around the state representing the SBPD at competitions, earning many awards.

Dewberry is more than just a "good shot" -- he has scored 100 percent on every qualification since 2009.

Dewberry continues to devote all of his volunteer time as a range master for San Bernardino police.
