Resident Fatally Shoots Suspected Intruder in Arlington Heights; 2nd Suspect on the Loose

A homeowner fatally shot a suspected burglar who allegedly broke into a home in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles Monday morning, police said.

At around 8:40 a.m., police received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the homeowner was alone watching TV and saw two men inside his home. The victim felt threatened and opened fire, police said.

One of the suspected intruders was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police are searching for a second suspect who took off on foot and was seen on a green Schwinn bicycle.

The shooting was under investigation and the victim was cooperating with police.

Investigators said it did not appear the homeowner committed a crime.
