Residents of Laguna Woods Village, a senior-living facility in Orange County, are no longer allowed to grow medical marijuana in community garden centers.

Earlier this month, the Golden Rain Foundation Board voted unanimously to impose the ban.

"It appears they had already made up their mind," Lonnie Painter told the Orange County Register.

Painter serves as director of the Laguna Woods for Medical Cannabis group. She also grows herb in the garden center.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, law enforcement will not take action if a resident was growing marijuana with a doctor's prescription, the Register reported:

Residents can still grow marijuana for medical use at home or on their own patios if they choose, unless the homeowner's associations in the community take action.

"You can grow it on your own property, but this is community property," Hatch told the newspaper.
