Son: Rev. Robert Schuller Ousted From Crystal Cathedral Board

The famed Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove is denying that the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, who founded the church 50 years ago, has been voted off the board of directors.  A spokesman for the church is quoted as saying that Schuller will continue to be Chairman Emeritus.

But, Schuller's son, Robert A. Schuller, has told the Orange County Register that his father was voted off the board, apparently due in part to his efforts to make some changes.

The younger Schuller, who himself was voted off the board three years ago, said the removal of his 84-year-old father was prompted by his father's insistence on expanding the troubled church's board.

Besides financial turmoil, the ministry has been shaken by a Schuller family feud, with the elder Robert, his wife and his son at odds with Schuller's two daughters, including Sheila Schuller Coleman, who has taken control of the ministry.

Crystal Cathedral Ministries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, leading to a reorganization plan filed last month that includes the sale of  the ministry's buildings, according to media reports.
