$10K Reward Offered to Find Jog Path Attacker

The man sexually assaulted a woman jogging on a bike path earlier this month.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward Tuesday for information that helps investigators track down a man who sexually assaulted a woman jogging on a bike path in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte.

Supervisor Hilda Solis recommended the reward in the hope of drawing out witnesses.

About 5:30 p.m. on June 1, the victim was running on a path near the 500 block of Durfee Avenue when a man on a bicycle grabbed her, pulled her into the bushes and attempted to rape her.

She was able to fight the suspect off and escape, according to sheriff's officials, who said the man rode off on his bike toward Durfee Avenue and out of view.

The suspect was described as 20-30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds, with light skin, a black fade-style haircut and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. He wore a black T-shirt and black sweatpants.

Solis urged anyone with information to call the Special Victims Bureau 24-hour tip line at (877) 710-5273. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
