Riders Get More Adventure Than They Bargained For When Disney Ride Gets Stuck

Riders on the California Screamin’ roller coaster at Disney’s California Adventure theme park in Anaheim got a little more excitement than they bargained for when they had to be taken off a train that became stuck atop the ride Tuesday afternoon.

It’s not clear how many people were on board the ride when it became stuck. A park spokeswoman said the ride was stopped temporarily to retrieve an item dropped by a guest who was waiting to board a train at the station.

"This happens pretty frequently," she said.

Disney officials said the car stalled when it was in the station, but parkgoers shared video with NBC4, showing people being escorted from a stalled car atop the ride.

Riders tweeted about the stall and posted photos to Instagram showing a train stuck near the peak of the ride.

Four trains of the ride also became stuck back in April, when it took crews between five and 30 minutes to take passengers off the ride. No one was injured in that incident, which was attributed to a “mechanical issue.”
