Officers involved in a shooting with a suspect who allegedly fired at police Saturday morning in Riverside have been placed on administrative leave, officials said.
The shooting occurred around 4:31 a.m. near 14th Street and Forrest Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.
When officers conducting a traffic stop heard gunshots in the area, responding officers arrived and the suspect began firing at them with a handgun, officials said.
Additional responding officers arrived in the area of Howard Avenue and Cottage Street and two other officers came under fire.
Officers shot the suspect, identified by police as 37-year-old Roberto Jimenes of Riverside.
Jimenes was taken into custody and hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured in the incident.
