Security cameras recorded a man in a security guard jacket shop for beverages in a San Dimas convenience store, then rob the clerk at gunpoint, before leaving in a waiting getaway pickup truck.
The man picked up a coffee and an energy drink in the AM-PM mini-mart in the 1100 block of W. Arrow Highway, and also wanted some cigarettes at the checkout counter.
Then he pulled out a handgun and demanded the clerk empty the register drawer cash into a bag. He took the bag, four packs of cigarettes, and scooped up the coffee and energy drink before departing in a waiting getaway truck.
The entire anatomy of the armed robbery was recorded by the elaborate security camera system in place at the Arco station on Arrow Highway at Lone Hill, and Los Angeles Sheriff's investigators hope to use that video to identify him.
The armed robbery occurred early Tuesday morning, shortly after midnight. The robber can be seen walking to a waiting Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which appears to have black and white paint, almost like a law enforcement vehicle. An apparent logo on the side door cannot be read in the light.
The security jacket has shoulder patches and a badge, but the video is not sharp enough to reveal the details, at least not without enhancement.
It's not yet know whether the robber actually is a security guard, or why he wore the jacket. Investigators got information that a second man, with tattoos on both hands and a shaved head, drove the getaway truck.

Half a year ago in March, on the other side of San Dimas, a 7-Eleven was robbed by two gunmen who at first pretended to be shoppers, and then produced handguns. They've yet to be identified and apprehended. Neither wore a security guard jacket, but the possibility these same two committed the robbery at the AMPM has not been ruled out, a detective at the Sheriff's San Dimas station said.
