Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot by Fontana Police

Police shot the suspect after he refused to surrender and advanced on officers, according to Fontana Police

An officer-involved shooting left a robbery suspect dead in Fontana on Sunday morning, police said.

Police responded to a Chevron gas station at the corner of Sierra and Slover avenues around 4:15 a.m. after the clerk had called 911 to report a possible robbery in progress, according to the Fontana Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found the 47-year-old suspect armed with a knife and holding a large rock, police said.

The suspect went into the store where the clerk was, and officers followed him inside where they tried to talk him into surrendering, according to Fontana Police.

Police said the suspect was fatally shot after he advanced on officers. 

No officers were injured, and the store clerk was unharmed.

The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident, which Fontana Police said is standard practice.

No further information about the suspect was available.
