Rogers and Dalhausser Start Medal Defense With Victory

After winning gold in Beijing, Rogers and Dalhausser win their first match handily.

Southern Californians Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser turned in a strong performance on the beach volleyball court Sunday defeating the Japanese team of Kentaro Asahi and Katsuhiro Shiratori 21-15, 21-16.

The 6-foot-9 Dalhausser, who lives in Ventura, had nine blocks.

Rogers contributed 11 digs to the winning effort.

In Beijing, Rogers and Dalhausser lost their first match, but came back to win their next six matches, including the gold medal game.

Ranked second in the field, Rogers and Dalhausser, will face the Spanish duo of Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira Tuesday.

Herrera won silver at the 2004 Athens Games with a different partner.
