Los Angeles police diverted traffic for four hours from Moorpark Ave. in Studio City Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found on the sidewalk near the intersection with Rhodes Ave.

The package, a backpack that had been deliberately dropped on the sidewalk near the Unitarian Universalist Church of Studio City, was found not to be dangerous by an LAPD bomb squad, officials told NBC4.

The area was re-opened at about 11:30 a.m., police said.

Rush-hour traffic was backed up on Moorpark as a result of the police activity, a witness said.

Police said the incident was unusual because someone actually drove up to the location and placed the a backpack there.

The package did not appear to be a threat to the church, which is located at Rhodes and Moorpark, said LAPD Sgt. Kent Pollard.
