SLO Down for ‘Roll Out the Barrels'

The summer-starter of a Central Coast celebration will feature 30 wineries.

SUMMER'S ARRIVAL... can mean a lot of different things, depending upon how you choose to celebrate it. Some people wake at dawn, to watch our nearest star rise on the longest day of the year. Others might attend an astronomy talk, or a sound bath, or a yoga workshop, all to keep with the cosmic moment. And if you're around the Central Coast, and you're an oenophile, and you go gaga for a gorgeous plaza, the kind of destination that just brims with California charm? Well, chances are good you're going to SLO down in honor of the summer solstice, all to enjoy some primo vino. And so plenty of people shall, when...

ROLL OUT THE BARRELS... rolls back into San Luis Obispo and its winery-laden, vine-amazing environs. The whole shebang of a celebration will pour from June 20 through 22, meaning, yes, you can cross the bridge from spring to summer while there. And where is "there" exactly? Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is the setting for Thursday evening, June 20, when Barrels in the Plaza takes place. That's when 30 members of SLO Coast Wine Collective will stop by, along with several chefs and an array of excellent bites, all to give the big weekend the grand kick-off it deserves. Then, on June 21 and 22? The wine-themed adventures continue with...

PASSPORT TO SLO COAST WINE, "... during which attendees may sip their way through the region's picturesque tasting rooms while enjoying exclusive benefits." Do be 21+, and keep in mind that the passport gives you a chance to visit a quartet of wineries per day. The cost? It's fifty dollars for Saturday, and $75 for both days, while your designated driver's ticket is $20 per day. Several wineries'll have the good-flowing tunes in the house, and nifty behind-the-scenes tours, and interesting eats, and discounts, too, on bottles you can buy and take home to enjoy. Feeling like the Central Coast is the place you'd like to start the summer of '19? Summer-starters, SLO it up, just a bit, and check out all you need to know now on tickets, participating wineries, and this jewel of an annual wine-wonderful festivity.
