Actors performing in adult films produced in Los Angeles have higher rates of sexually transmitted infections than prostitutes and sex workers in Nevada, according to a study published Tuesday in the Journal of Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
The study of 168 adult film performers found that 28 percent were infected with gonorrhea, chlamydia, or both. That number exceeded the rate for prostitutes in Nevada, where prostitution is legal.
California voters are being asked to vote on Measure B on Nov. 6, which would mandate condom use in adult film production across LA County.
