72-Year-Old Taken Into Custody After SWAT Deployed, Neighbors Evacuated in Simi Valley Barricade

The barricade was spurred after a family altercation, police said.

A 72-year-old man, believed to be armed, was taken into custody after holing up in a Simi Valley home, prompting police to deploy SWAT teams, police said Sunday.

Simi Valley police was trying to make contact with the man in the 2200 block of Latham Street around 6:20 p.m.

The 72-year-old man, identified by police as Raymond Williams, got into a dispute with his 50-year-old nephew around 3:30 p.m., police said.

Police said the 72-year-old assaulted his nephew with a baseball bat and brandished a gun before going back into his house.

He didn’t fire the handgun, police said.

Neighbors were evacuated and relocated by police.

The man was taken into custody after the hours-long standoff around 10:20 p.m.
