Gunfire Breaks Out in San Bernardino Gang Operation

Three men were in custody after attackers opened fire on officers Thursday night in San Bernardino.

The uniformed officers were in an unmarked car in an alley in the 2500 block of West Foothill Boulevard around 8:40 p.m. when they reported gunfire. Officers fired back at the attackers during a pursuit on foot, striking a 17-year-old who ran across a motel parking lot, police said.

He was arrested.

A second man was taken into custody as he tried to enter a motel room, police said. A third man was captured at a nearby mobile home park, according to police. 

Two of the arrested are known to associate with a local gang, accordin tot he San Bernardino Police Department.

Details regarding their identities and the condition of the wounded teen were not immediately available.

The officers were conducting a gang surveillance operation before the shooting, police said. No officers were injured.
