8 Arrested, More Than 1,400 Plants Seized in San Bernardino Pot Bust

Three of the suspects face felony charges, while one has not yet been identified.

More than 1,400 marijuana plants were seized and eight people were arrested in an investigation in two unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County on Friday.

In addition to the seized plants, the investigation, which took place in Landers and Yucca Valley, resulted in six search warrants and the seizure of 19 pounds of processed pot, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

While officials arrested suspects in two Yucca Valley locations and three of the four targeted Landers locations, one Landers suspect has not been arrested and remains unidentified.

Those charged include Fresno residents Andrew Keophaky, 24, and Chanthavone Chanthiratm, 41, from whom officials recovered 323 plants; 62-year-olds Nina Vongsouthy and Houmphanousine Houmphaeng, from whom officials seized 195 plants; 24-year-olds Julian Hernandez-Garcia and Hermenegilou Silva-Valencia, who possessed 16 pounds of processed pot; Marcus Mills, 37, whose property had 289 plants; and Justin Maddalema, 35, whose property had 405 plants.

Police have not yet identified a suspect from a Hilton Avenue property from where 250 plants and three pounds of processed pot were found. 

Charges ranged from violation of the county's Commercial Cannabis Ordinance to cultivation, sale and transport of marijuana.

Three of the suspects face felony cultivation convictions, according to the sheriff's department.
