A Santa Ana police officer was hospitalized Monday following a shooting that killed an individual involved in an altercation with police, authorities said.
The shooting took place at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at Edinger Avenue and Sullivan Street, said Santa Ana police Corporal Anthony Bertagna. Two officers approached a man who was sitting in a car parked at a strip mall, police said.
"Two officers contacted an individual in a car," Bertagna said. "A fight ensued and there was an officer-involved shooting."
The man in the car died at a hospital.
Officers also used a stun gun during the altercation, police said.
More details, including the deceased individual's identity, were not available.
