Gunman Opens Fire on Police During Anti-Gang Operation in Santa Ana

Police opened fire Monday night when a gunman shot at their patrol car during a gang enforcement operation in Santa Ana. 

Two officers in a marked car were driving in an alley when a gunman emerged from a garage and fire several rounds, police said. Officers ran after the man and returned fire, striking him in the upper body, police said. 

The man was hospitalized. Details about his condition were not immediately available. 

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene. 

No officers were injured. 

Two other men seen running from the scene were detained for questioning.
