A school bus overturned Thursday afternoon in Victorville, injuring 13 elementary school students and the driver, authorities said.

The incident happened at about 2 p.m. at 16636 Nisqualli Road (map), according to Tracy Martinez, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Thirteen students were injured, and two were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to local hospitals, along with the other students, who also had minor injuries.

Forty students were on the bus, which was coming from Galileo Academy, an elementary school.

The driver of a U-Haul truck had backed up from a driveway into the school bus, which was traveling down the road, the San Bernardino Sun reported. Martinez said in a press release that the driver and passenger in the U-Haul wre uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions between First and Third avenues. The California Highway Patrol was investigating.
